## New T3s ##

## Ashes DLC transfers ##
Escalation ##
## DLC news ##

Lot's happening so I'll get right to it.
## Need your good vibes ##
Our lead developer on Escalation is very ill. She's been working on the replay feature for the game that we had hoped to release before Christmas. We are looking forward to her healthy return. She's really a wonderful person and amazing developer.
## New T3s ##
We are designing a new T3 for the Substrate and one for the PHC. These will be made available for free. I don't have an ETA yet.
Similarly, we are working on a radar jammer for the PHC and Substrate players.
## UI UI UI UI ##
UI, hot keys, etc. These are a lot more time consuming than many of you might think to get in. It is always something that frustrates me. As a former PGL player for Total Annihialtion and a high Diamond league player in StarCraft, I always get infuriated when I have to use the mouse for pretty much anything.
We did get WASD camera controls in recently but that's really just the start. Full keyboard binding is one of our next tasks.

## Ashes DLC transfers ##
Any DLC you buy for Ashes of the Singularity is automatically transferred to Escalation. That is because, under the covers, Escalation IS Ashes and vice versa. However, QA really wants a bit more time to make sure we didn't break something before we unleash it.
The delay on this is strictly my fault. Some of you may know that I wrote a fairly large patch for Galactic Civilizations III this past month and testing it has consumed much of our QA time. I was really annoyed with the AI and turn time performance in that game and felt compelled to get in there and do my thing.
Expect the DLC from Ashes to be enabled in Escalation early January.
## Ashes vs. Escalation ##
We took quite a user review being on the base game of Ashes of the Singularity with the release of Escalation.
I want to start by saying: Yes, I understand where those angry souls are coming from. From their perspective, they were expecting the base game to be X and it was Y and Escalation is a lot closer to Y than Ashes was.
I also understand how frustrating it is for someone who paid $50 for the base game only to see new people able to get Escalation for $40 and it includes everything in the base game plus the expansion. It's a kick in the teeth.
In the old days, we used to have our products require activation. That is, when you launched them, you had to type in your email and serial and it would activate it. People would complain endlessly of this "copy protection" (which it was not). The purpose was so that we could create lots of flexibility if there was a price change.
Let me give you an example: We had an early access game we were publishing called Servo. Unfortunately, the developers weren't able to finish the game. Because the Founders are part of that activation system (i.e. we know exactly who they are, how much they paid, and when) we can easily give them other goodies like access to the upcoming Star Control reboot.
It is difficult to resist being defensive when confronted with what seems like unreasonable or unfair responses (i.e. the way the PC games market is going these days is not something we have a lot of control over, we have limited control on how our games are packaged on various platforms, etc.). But instead, I want to find a solution that benefits everyone.
After the beating we took on Ashes from unhappy customers we thought of ways we could avoid the kind of misunderstanding as well as genuine unfairness those users experienced for the future and here is what we came up with: The RallyPoint
On Monday, starting with Sins of a Solar Empire, a general Stardock game launcher will be included with each game. Over time, we will encourage users to associate their Steam (or GOG) account with Stardock so that we can more easily give people benefits for being early adopters.
The fact of the matter is this: As an industry, we have to solve the early adopter penalty. If we don't, people will just wait for sales. Without early adopters, these games can't get made. Without early adopters, it's sequels all the way down.
Right now, we have almost no way to know who is an early adopter. What we have to do is find out who you are, when you bought the game and how much and then customize free things for just YOU to reward you for being an early adopter.
That's how I think we solve it. That's what I think every game developer will need to do: Reward early adopters continuously.
If you have Sins of a Solar Empire, you should see the launcher next week. Please give us feedback and suggestions on it as well as ideas on what sorts of things you think early adopters would appreciate.
## DLC news ##
We don't have any DLC plans for Escalation until after Christmas. We are moving in the direction of having DLC be continuations of our story that happen to include new maps and scenario rather than just collections of maps and scenarios. Would love to hear what you think.
